My new D-Link DI-524 wireless router keeps on losing connection.
I plugged a Cat5e straight-through cable to my Motorola SURFboard SB5100 cable modem and connected the other end to the WAN port of the D-Link DI-524 router. And then plugged another Cat5e cable from port1 of the D-Link router to my computer. When I powered them up in the recommended sequence, I would be able to connect to the internet for about 1 to 5 minutes. During that time, there were lots of blinking lights on the D-Link router. And then, all of a sudden, all lights (including Ports 1 to 4) were illuminated, but the WAN light went off!!! The cable modem PC/ACTIVITY orange light went off as well. Connection was lost at this point. I had to unplug the Power on the D-Link router and plug it back in for it to work again, for another 1-5 minutes. Can someone tell me what the problem is here? Firmware was 3.00. I upgraded it to 3.02.
Same problem persists. "DLink Guru" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news Y_3e.22903$k66.4960@trnddc03...> Try updating to the latest firmware on your router. Here is the link. Yes, I'm thinking that it's a defective unit!

The only other thing I can think of is that you dont have the WAN port
configured correctly. This is were you pick your ISP connection type between Dynamic, Static or PPOE. If you have this configured correctly I would also have to suggest returning it for another unit. Thanks. Does this happen often with D-Link wireless routers? I've been
reading some reviews and it sounded bad for D-Link DI-524: http://reviews.cnet.com/4864-3265_7-...40&ctype=msgid "DLink Guru" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:AY24e.2873$3O2.1708@trnddc01... > The only other thing I can think of is that you dont have the WAN port > configured correctly. I have not personally used the DI-524, but have used the 514 and 624 and
have had no problems with them, after upgrading the firmware that is. I have seen alot of complaints about the 524, but almost half of them have been solved by firmware upgrades, and about another15 to 20 percent were just configuration problems by the user. Hope your next one work better for you. Robert.... "Ben" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:1M2dneZnNdKZrszfRVn-(E-Mail Removed)... > Thanks. This is rather interesting, read the other thread in this group
entitled "How much can I trust XP SP2 firewall". That was my question because I was finding I had to directly connect my laptop to the DSL modem because I'd get too many connection drop-offs when going through my DI-524 router! Looks like we got ourselves a lemon here. I have another Dlink router, the older DI-614+ which I set up at my mother's place, it's not nearly as bad as the 524. Yousuf Khan |
