Default Networking problem- HELP?

Have just managed to set up small home PC network. Main PC which is running XP is hooked up to NTL (Virgin) Cable modem, then to D-Link W/less Router. Other PC is working via a Belkin wireless adaptor and is running Windows 2000. I can find the Network place for the 2nd PC but when I try to link up with the Main one from upstairs, just keep getting access denied or path unavailable. All sharing is turned on. Anyone suggest a solution??

It's hard enough getting a couple of Windows XP boxes talking to each
other, let alone an XP to a 2000 box. It's very hit and miss, most of
the time.

Try to see if the two boxes see each other via pinging to each other.

Just turning on sharing isn't enough, there has to be a share on the remote
system, and you have to have valid credentials on that system.

On Microsoft operating systems more current than Win9x/WinME, allowing access
by "everyone" doesn't mean "every system connected to the network. It means
"everyone with a valid account on the share host"...

And turn off the html, please...
