Default 2003 Server Unable to Map UNC Path

I have a 2003 server that i cannot access a 2nd 2003 server by unc path but
can ping by ip or name. I can ping both and use unc path from a 3rd server.

How can I get server 1 to use a unc path to server 2?

Thanks.

Hello Andy,

Sounds like DNS problem. Please post an unedited ipconfig /all from the servers.

Best regards

Hello Andy,

Your DNS servers are not in the same subnet. With your subnet mask you can
only use 10.32.14.x but the DNS machines are in 10.32.15.x why is this, are
they behind a router? Is one of the servers DNS server?

Best regards

What kind of error do you get when you fail to access the share?
Do you get anything in the eventlog?

As you can ping the server by ip or name without access shares, it sounds
like a security option-problem.
For example, server2 requires NTLMv2, but server1 isn't configured to
respond with that security level.

Network security: LAN Manager authentication level
Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communications (always)
Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communications (when possibly)
Microsoft network server: Digitally sign communications (always)
Microsoft network server: Digitally sign communications (when possibly)

Also check firewall/ipsec settings.

The DNS-server doesn't nead to be in the same subnet.
Both servers are located in the same subnet and he can reach the second
server by pinging name (DNS works) or IP, so it's not a routing problem.
Sounds more like a problem with security options or local firewall on the
server.

Can you access 2nd server like this: \\ip-address\c$ ?
For example, if 2nd server ip address is 172.168.10.10, can you connect to
it by typing \\172.168.10.10\c$ from Run menu on 1st server?

The local firewalls are turned off. What type of security options would you
recommend I look at?

Ok that makes sense. Where do I check these options at?
I am new to 2003 and don't know where alot of this is at.
