Set a static IP address on the XP machine. This way you can specify all
of the network settings. Leave out the IP address of the default gateway. Without a gateway address, the machine will not have a path out to the internet and can only talk locally. ( Unless your router will do proxy arp! ) The best way to do this is to make sure you use an address that is reserved and you know won't be issued by the DHCP server. But you could always just assign an address high in the subnet range and with only two pc's it is doubtful you will ever have problems. Make sure the address you assign the PC is in the same subnet as your other machine and the router. There are many free subnet calculators available on the internet if you need help with this. KW |
