Hi,
A few days ago I asked a question about managing a system for a school and got some great advices. SteadyState was suggested, http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...s/default.mspx As I see it, I need to run the software on all the machine. I would turn the 'Disk protection' to reset all the information on a regular basis, (this option is offered and is great). So now all I need is to manage the kids username and password, (we would like them to be able to use any machine in the workgroup). We have about 30 computers in the lab for about 700 children, (all the machines are XP pro). All the computers are part of the same workgroup. Where can I find a tutorial to create a new user group that would allow the kid to log on to any computer on the workgroup and retrieve their profile? Or do I need a Server to handle this? Looking at my own computers at home, I can see that both my machines are part of the same workgroup but I cannot logon from machine A with user B for example. How can I manage roaming users in windows XP. Thanks Simon Simon |

You can't really do that sort of thing with a workgroup. There is no
central account store for a workgroup. You would need to set up every account on every workstation. You need to use a domain structure to have a central point for managing roaming accounts and/or roaming profiles. In the future, please don't multipost - if you need to post to multiple groups, it's best to crosspost instead, by posting a single message to a handful of relevant groups (separate the NG names with commas) so that everyone can follow the thread. Multiposting wastes everyone's time, including yours, and may lead to your actually getting *less* help rather than more. See http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm. |
