Default Workstation service

I am trying to start workstation service, but when I click on start,
it tells me "Error 1068: the dependency service or group failed to
start". Please help.

on my 2k3 alerter is dependent on workstation, not the other way around. i
don't show anything that workstation depends on.

now that seems strange... that would be a circular dependence. is alerter
running?? what does it show in it's dependency tab? if it isn't running
can you start it??

When I try to run Alerter, it gives me the same message. I cannot
start it. In its dependency tab in both panes it shows Workstation.

that can't be right. in my alerter it shows that it depends on workstation,
but it doesn't depend on anything. sounds like something got crossed up in
the alerter or workstation dependencies somehow. i have no idea how that
might be fixed, maybe search the kb then contact ms direct.

Just confirming that this is the default.

The dependencies should be (like the other settings) in HKLM\CCS
\services\workstation. Shouldn't be difficult to fix that by comparing
to a "healty" service on the same computer or on a different computer.
