Linksys Range/Connectivity Issue

Hello All,

I'm posting this via my dial-up back-up link because Linksys Wireless G
connection won't reliably connect at the moment.

I'm using a Linksys WRT54GS connected to a Brighthouse cable box. It is
at the other end of my house. (about 70ft) I have a Linksys USB adapter
hanging on a USB cable off the bookcase above my computer. Originally I
had little to no signal/connection so purchased a Range Expander to put
in the living room about midway between this computer and the computer
in the back bedroom (where the access point is). This got me connected.

Connection has always been spotty. Lately it has gotten even worse. Is
this router just not right for this set-up? Should it be able to
connect through house walls for this distance? Do I need to scrap this
equipment and replace it with wireless N?

My daughter (at the access point) is plugged directly into the Linksys
via cable and says she experiences frequent "drop outs" too. Is this
normal on cable modems?

Wireless 'n' should fix your problem, that said you may be able to get
another access point and set them up in bridge mode, similar to what
you have with the range extender, and get more distance from your 'g'
router. You should get the same brand access point as you have now for
it to work.
You could also try switching to a different channel, neighbors could
be interfering now where as in the past they did not.

I second that. Do a survey around your home to see what channels are
being used by neighbors. If your area is anything like mine, you'll
find multiple signals within range all trying to use the same default
channel setting.

I am the only person in my neighborhood using the channel that I am on
and the range and performance of my WRT is outstanding.

Do you have a Xbox360 in the house?
