Have repeating problem with Windows 2003 RRAS.
I set up Dial on Demand interface (analog modem, tcp/ip and ppp), and it worked fine for some time. Now it can't connect with Error 20111 "A Demand Dial connection to the remote interface test on port COM1 was successfully initiated but failed to complete successfully because of the following error: A connection to the remote computer could not be established. You might need to change the network settings for this connection. For further assistance, click More Info or search Help and Support Center for this error number." Exactly same connection works fine when created outside the RRAS (in Network Connections, Add new Connection). I tried to disable/enable RRAS Service with full reconfiguration, recreation of DoD interface, netsh int ip reset, etc with no success. It works once again after server reinstall, but fails after short period of time. Nothing found in KB, most similar issue applies to NT4. :-) -- Michael Gotch Michael Gotch |

Hello Michael,
Thank you for using newsgroup! From your post, does the issue only occur on this modem? What about other machines? Hello!
This issue occurs: with two different analog modems (Zyxel and 3com) on two PC's. After first occurrence of the problem, I reinstalled Windows 2003 Server on different PC (same model, same hardware). It worked for a day, and stopped next day. I believe if I reinstall server one more time, it' will work for a while. Think it's a kind of misconfiguration, but I can't find any workaround. And it is very confusing, that everything is fine when manually dialing identical connection outside the RRAS. -- Michael Gotch ""Ken Zhao [MSFT]"" <v-(E-Mail Removed)> ÓÏÏÂÝÉÌ/ÓÏÏÂÝÉÌÁ × ÎÏ×ÏÓÔÑÈ ÓÌÅÄÕÀÝÅÅ: news:(E-Mail Removed)... > Hello Michael, > > Thank you for using newsgroup! > > From your post, does the issue only occur on this modem? Hi Michael,
Please help us collect RRAS log on the server to check (v-(E-Mail Removed)): 1. On the VPN server, run this command to enable RRAS debug logs: netsh ras set tracing * enable 2. On the server, add this registry entry: Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\PolicyAgent\Oakley Name: EnableLogging Type: REG_DWORD Data: 1 If the Oakley subkey doesn't exist under PolicyAgent, please manually create it. 3. Now try to reproduce this problem again, and then on each server, give me these log files: %SystemRoot%\Tracing, all files under that folder; %systemroot%\Debug\oakley.log Thanks & Regards, Ken Zhao Microsoft Online Support Microsoft Global Technical Support Center Get Secure! - www.microsoft.com/security <http://www.microsoft.com/security> ================================================== == When responding to posts, please "Reply to Group" via your newsreader so that others may learn and benefit from your issue. ================================================== == This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. |

Hi Michael,
From your information, I suspect this issue may be caused by network configuration. Have you changed any network configurations on the VPN server/client? If so, please change back the original setting. If you have access to the server we can try "PPTP Ping" tool to see if we have connectivity all the way through from this client. Based on my knowledge, "PPTP Ping" tool is included in Windows 2000 support tools. 301423: How to install the Windows 2000 Support Tools http://support.microsoft.com/kb/301423/ If you receive any error reply after using PPTP Ping tool, please feel free to let us know.
