Hi guys,
We've got a full cable/broadband package with Virgin Media (ex ntl) and also a BT ADSL modem that I use for work. As I've had problems with the VM modem/connection I've recently resorted to using my work (BT) connection for home use until the problems are sorted out. Whilst we can connect to the internet OK, if my partner should try to SEND an email from her ntlworld account it fails. She can receive emails OK but it's the sending that's the issue. Is it that VM prohibit the sending of emails from non-VM modems perhaps? Anyone else encountered this? Is there a work round that you know of? Thanks! Lee pc.issues@ntlworld.com |

Fron non-VM connections. > Anyone else encountered this? Is there a work round that you know of? Use the BT email server to send the mail. You'll need to tweak the account settings. Graham |

Most ISPs allow collection of POP3 mail from any connection. >Is it that VM prohibit the sending of emails from non-VM modems >perhaps? >Anyone else encountered this? You will therefore be blocked from using VM's outgoing smtp server to prevent relaying (see <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_mail_relay>). Either change your settings to use the smtp server of the ADSL service, or to avoid needing to make such setting changes in future subscribe to a service which includes outgoing smtp such as ClaraHost. -- dave @ stejonda |
