Hi,
I have a 2003 server and want to share users home folders over the internet, I take it that if you set a vpn up you need clients installing on the users machines, is it possible to just login to a webpage and for the users folders just to come up on the webpage without installing anything on users pc's? Are there any software packages to do this, if so anyone recommend any? Cheers, Graham Graham Sims |

Presumably Vista too. > is it possible to just login to a webpage and for the users folders just > to come up on the webpage without installing anything on users pc's? You can use a web or FTP server, but it's not the same as accessing a shared drive over a VPN. Bear in mind that unless you use HTTPS, authentication and file data are not encrypted. > Are there any software packages to do this, if so anyone recommend any? There's IIS for a start, although many wouldn't recommend it as a web server (I have no idea about its FTP server). Apache is a common alternative web server. I don't know of any other FTP servers for Windows off the top of my head. Alex |

Set up a webserver on your 2003 machine, and have the folders on the machine automatically copied and synchronised with a folder on the 2003 machine that you point your webserver software at at the "homepage". I've not explained that very well but I know what I'm trying to say! -- Regards Jon |
