I have a D-Link DSL G624M which is great. However, I need a setting that will make one PC as the DHCP server. Is it possible to do this such that the other Computers still connect wirelessly (hopefully the main PC as well)? Thanks for your help. Faisal... Faisal... |

Why!! This is not normally a PC function and wit a router I can't see why
you should need one!. If you REALLY need a DHCP server I think I still have a copy of what was some freeware but Have not used it for years. I use my router as a DHCP server. Hi I am trying to install LinuxMCE and it requires the server PC to be the DHCP server, the rest will boot off through PXE (via a wireless bridge) and obtain the os image from the server PC. That's the reason I want such configuration. Faisal... |

So can I use the DSl-624M as a router and ADSL modem and the server PC
as the DHCP server? I don't know of any domestic broadband routers which support this. The LinuxMCE site recommends two network interfaces in the Core: one connected to the router, which can be configured by DHCP, and one connected to everything else, through which the Core offers DHCP service. Another possibility is to connect everything to the same network and disable the DHCP server on the router. However, for Internet access, the DHCP server on the Core will need to be configured to give the address of the router as a gateway, and I couldn't see anything about how to do this on the site. Alex, Clint
Thanks for your response. I will try what you suggested (if possible). I wil let you know if it works. If it does not work then I will try a different route. Thanks. Faisal... I don't know of any domestic broadband routers which support > this. You can have as many as you want. The client will send out a DHCP discover broadcast , the DHCP servers will all reply with an Offer. The client then sends back a request to one of them (usually the first) , and that replies with an Accept. The problem comes when they have overlapping address ranges as they aren't aware of which ones have already been leased and you can get duplicates. -- Alex New laptop - Sig missing |
