Ok guys, always wanted to know this;
I connect to my work network via VPN. I only have one ethernet port and one ethernet cable connected to it. I'm running Vista Ultimate. Now I am governed by my company firewall rules, etc. If I do a ipconfig /all, I do see 2 connections (one is virtual). Is there ANY way to surf the web using a "different" conneciton than my VPN subnet? I thought in the world of virtual LANS, I could add a connection outside my company's connection/firewall rules. In other words, instead of having a second physical ethernet connection/wire, is there a way to have a "virtual" ethernet connection? Thanks )courtneyvallely@gmail.com |

Sure, this link may help,

In the context that you are describing this,...no it is not possible,...not
technically,...and not even theoretically. There is no such thing as "outside my company's connection/firewall rules". That isn't the way firewalls work. Firewalls deny *everything*,....whatever is allowed is an exception to that,...meaning that anything that is allowed has to be specifically accounted for and allowed,...therefore anything outside of those boundaries is automatically denied. Trying to bypass an organizations firewall rule is grounds for firing an employee in both the *legal* realm and in the "common sense" realm. The Congressionally passed Sarbanes-Oxly Act will back up the legal action. If it is a medical organization, then the HIPPA Act (however you spell it) also backs up and enforces the legal action -- Phillip Windell www.wandtv.com The views expressed, are my own and not those of my employer, or Microsoft, or anyone else associated with me, including my cats. ----------------------------------------------------- <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:(E-Mail Removed) ups.com... > Ok guys, always wanted to know this; > > I connect to my work network via VPN. When you are connected to your work, all traffic passes over that VPN and you don't want that to happen? G. Samuel Hays, MCSE, MCSA |
