Now, did you want either one of those systems to be able to connect to the internet? How 'bout the other system? /daytripper ("He'll be back" ;-) |

My desktop has a USB cable modem (as well as an Ethernet slot) which connects to the net my computer will have to be on since the card is in the computer. I know an access point is better but where I live in Australia the cost at least $500 and I don't even know if they will work or If I'll need a router do you know any 802.11a access points or routers and PCIcards my network is a small one they wouldn't be more than 5 computers currently only 1 or 2 when I set it up -- Krish Sharma Brisbane,Australia www.users.bigpond.net.au/sharma-family www.the-ultimate-website.com "daytripper" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news (E-Mail Removed)... > On Wed, 06 Aug 2003 08:46:20 GMT, "Krish" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote: > > >I'm going to set up a wireless network > >can I do it without buying an access point or router > >can I just do it by plugging in a PCI card into my desktop and create a link > >with my laptop which has a built in wireless > >the product I am planning to buy is a Netgear HA311 PCI card > >my laptop has a built in 802.11a(b) dual antenna > > You can certainly cobble together a two-node peer-to-peer wireless lan in the > manner which you describe. > > Now, did you want either one of those systems to be able to connect to the > internet? Works great, drivers work fine on both Win2K and XP Pro, zero complaints about the entire kit... /daytripper |
