Default pump/dhcp on Damn Small Linux

I've put Damn Small Linux on my wife's Sony notebook computer. It
works well except about half the time it appears that pump is unable
to set the IP address. I'm running an older Linksys DWL-650 wlan card,
which is natively supported by Linux. Sometimes it works, sometimes
not. Once DHCP has worked, the network connection works reliably until
she shuts down the machine. Then we have to keep rebooting until pump
is able to do the configuration.

I'm finding little documentation on pump. Ideally there'd perhaps be a
parameter to make it keep trying for a longer period of time before
giving up. Maybe something else to make it more reliable?

I'd appreciate any ideas!

THANKS!

Harold

I use dhclient on my Thinkpad 240X running Debian Etch and XFCE with an
Airlink101 AWLC4030-II PCMCIA wireless card and madwifi driver. However,
I don't have the system set up to automatically connect on boot up, since
most of the time I'm using the notebook in places where there is no
wireless. (Faster boot up that way.) When I do need wireless access (or
wired for that matter), I configure manually.
