Are you sure your "ADSL Modem" is a router also? What are the actual IP

the modem / router is ok, i have done a 'hard' reset & re set it up.
it has a dns server issuing 192.168.0.2 to 255, the router is 192.168.0.1 internally & whatever is given by isp externally roy "Richard G. What IP addresses do the computers show if you check them?

Ping IP address: yes. Ping Fully Qualified Domain Name: no. Sounds like a DNS issue. Is the computer which can't ping FQDNs pulling DNS server IP addresses from the router? What does winipcfg look like? Start|Run; type "winipcfg" into the box. Click the "More Info..." button. Right click on the title bar and click copy. Paste the result into a reply to this thread. Should be something like this: | | Windows IP Configuration | | Host Name . . . . . . . . . : MEGUMI.aosake.netDEST | DNS Servers . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1 | Node Type . . . . . . . . . : Broadcast | NetBIOS Scope ID. . . . . . : | IP Routing Enabled. . . . . : No | WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . : No | NetBIOS Resolution Uses DNS : No | | Ethernet adapter : | | Description . . . . . . . . : HP EN1207D-TX 10/100 Family Adapter | Physical Address. . . . . . : 00-10-B5-77-E6-46 | DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . : Yes | IP Address. . . . . . . . . : 192.168.102.100 | Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 | Default Gateway . . . . . . : 192.168.102.1 | DHCP Server . . . . . . . . : 192.168.102.1 | Primary WINS Server . . . . : | Secondary WINS Server . . . : | Lease Obtained. . . . . . . : 01 29 06 07:23:50 | Lease Expires . . . . . . . : 02 01 06 07:23:50 What you see on the "DNS Servers" line depends upon how the computer is configured. In my case, the DNS servers are on my DSL modem, and the line points to the modem. More likely you will see two IP address which are not in the private IP address range of 192.168.0.0/16. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

Different between Windows ME, which I have, and Windows XP, which I don't have access to. You can manually specify the appropriate DNS servers in the connection properties. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

this is what the problem pc is like,
the router is ok at 192.168.0.50 when i put 192.168.0.50 into my browser it says 'internet explorer could not open the search page' if i type 'http://192.168.0.50' it ignores it. if i ping 192.168.0.50 at commant propt, it shows good connect figures, i tried putting on firefox & ie6, its still the same!! roy Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . : Graham DNS Servers . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.50 Node Type . . . . . . . . . : Broadcast NetBIOS Scope ID. . . . . . : IP Routing Enabled. . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . : No NetBIOS Resolution Uses DNS : No Ethernet adapter : Description . . . . . . . . : NDIS 5.0 driver Physical Address. . . . . . : 00-40-F4-72-09-6D DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.11 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . : 192.168.0.50 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.50 Primary WINS Server . . . . : Secondary WINS Server . . . : Lease Obtained. . . . . . . : 01 30 06 17:53:40 Lease Expires . . . . . . . : 02 02 06 17:53:40 |
