Default Black box measurements

Hi,

I have a box with an aerial and a socket marked "LAN" - which appears to
be one of these:

http://www.newlinkproducts.co.uk/pro...tID=2&prodID=8

However, it has no label and no indication of default settings.

I have tried resetting it with a computer connected to the LAN port set
to acquire an IP address.. no joy.

Is there a (free) tool that can maybe sniff out its MAC address and
maybe even sniff out its IP address, assuming it has one?

Does anyone have one of these and know what the default settings are -
or where to get them?

Not got a reset button on it? Tried to find a manual for it?

Hi Stuart.

Yes, it has a reset button (as in "I have tired resetting it" ).

No label on it - so no FCC ID.

The one in the link *appears* similar. I've managed to track that one
down to its manufacturer and have emailed their technical support in tw
and their sales offshoot in the us. It appears in their US web site, but
the link to the user manual comes back "not found".

Whether it is the same product or not is another matter, of
course...Hence my trying the alternate approach - if I can get the MAC
address, it will point to the manufacturer.

The MAC address will also help in other ways - I can manually an IP
address to the MAC address and thus try a few higher level protocol
calls on it.

Thanks Graham. Ideal.

That got me the MAC address. Nice package - I can see it coming in
useful again!

The box is not actually sending out any higher protocol packets or
responding to any -- (I've put it in the static IP map table).

Ah well, I'll sleep on it and try a few other things tomorrow.

Thanks again!

Sue

Thanks Lenny. Graham suggested a different program - which has worked
well and given me the things MAC address. No joy getting it to do
anything useful yet, but I'm cream-crackered, so will leave it 'til
tomorrow.

I'll give your suggestion a go then too.

MAny thanks

Sue
