I installed a new computer in a Workgroup of about 20 systems, with a fresh
install of Windows ME (including critical and security updates), and to which a printer is connected. I attempted to configure the system and the printer to be shared, but neither the new system nor the printer are visible to other systems in the Workgroup (all systems are Windows ME). -the (all) system(s) can access the internet, so the adapter and TCP/IP are working -the File and Printer Sharing component is installed on the new system and on the systems I want to access the printer -the printer has been designated for sharing and shows the "little hand" -the printer works on the new system itself -other printers connected to other systems in this Workgroup are being successfully shared, but *not* to the new system -the Network Neighborhood on the new system shows other Workgroups on the network, and can access shared resources on systems in those Workgroups When I say the new system is "not visible", I mean it does not show in the Network Neighborhood of other systems in the Workgroup, and when I try to set up the printer I'm trying to share on those other systems, the printer setup on the other systems cannot find the new system or it's shared printer. Ideas on what the issue is, how to troubleshoot it, and/or pointers to useful references appreciated. Gus Zernial |

See whether a firewall on the new system is blocking access. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. The new system has AVG anti-virus and Spybot S&D installed, but
neither of these is/has a firewall. As far as I know, Windows ME has no built-in firewall. There is no other third-party firewall installed.
