Default Keeping e-mail address when changing Providers?

Hi,

My Service Provider is Orange (who devoured Freeserve)...

....the e-mail address I have used for years and is (E-Mail Removed)

....the service from Orange is not good these days...e-mail messages going
astray etc...so thinking about changing...but would like to retain existing
e address.

Anyone know if this will be possible?

Thanks,

John

You wont be able to migrate your email address away from AND cut all ties
with Orange.

One way of being able to change ISPs and maintain an emal address is to buy
a domain and pay for email and web site hosting.

certainly, just downgrade it to a PAYG dialup account and either dial
in every now and then to keep it alive or resurrect it via a web page.
We've kept a Freeserve address going like this since they launched.

I've been doing the same with several FreeUK accounts. A reminder
prompts me to dial in every 8th Saturday.

I have freeserve etc addresses that I have kept alive for over 5 years
now without ever having to dial in - I just re-activate them when they
die (about every 200 days).

The other option is to dial in once every few months.

Once you've taken the hit and done it once, you'll have your own domain name
that you'll be able to keep regardless of future providers. I've had my
domain name for seven years now, I realised back then that it was a useful
thing to do, even though I still have a Demon account and so could still
use my original address if it wasn't so spam-ridden now.

Is the CORRECT answer!

Unlike some providers I could mention, Freeserve/Wanadoo/Orangehome
email has always been accessible from other ISPs domains.
The OP will need to keep his pop3 server setting as it is now,
and change his smtp setting to the one provided by his new ISP.

None of that will stop his POP3 mail going astray though,
if that's what's happening now.
