Tiscali news server out?

Default Tiscali news server out?



Since about a week now the Tiscali news server (news.tiscali.co.uk) is
not responding any more in Outlook Newsreader. I get constantly now
the error message " Your NNTP server has not responded in 60 seconds.
Would you like to wait another 60 seconds for the server to respond?".
What could be the reason?
Does anybody else have problems with Tiscali news server NNTP on port
119?

Tiscali are total scum, they are liars and it can be proven.

They upset other companies so they blocked all email from Tiscali - it was
nothing to do with spammers as Spamhaus will confirm. They did an
independant study.
The email had been going funny for weeks, with mail being binned and people
getting incorrect mail addressed to others. I got loads of mail for other
people, with confidential info in.

Tiscali lie in my experience and I can't wait to cancel.
They don't care about being in breach of contract either. A group legal
action from most of the 1.8million UK customers would shut them down once
and for all.

My news seems to have worked fine for a while, though like everyone
else I have had all my outgoing email fall into their bit bucket for
the past week. The email problems seems as near as I can tell resolved
today.

Yet but that is about Tiscali mail server (SMTP); my concern was the
News Server at Tiscal (NNTP).
Funnliy enough, last night after midnight, its NNTP server worked,
today, during the morning not . Mabe Tiscali only operates its News
server when usage is low...a Night News Server (NNNTP..)

It responds to a ping, so it's definitely there !

I got this from Tiscali Team today.

Email service update

A number of customers have reported that emails sent from their
Tiscali email accounts have not been received.

We have identified that the issue was caused by spammers abusing our
email service, and it has been our highest priority to resolve this.
We believe that the service has been restored for the majority of our
customers. Our engineers are continuing to carry out tests to ensure
that the service is 100% restored.

If you have sent important emails in the last couple of weeks and are
concerned that they may not have been received, we recommend you
retrieve the relevant mails from your 'Sent Items' folder and re-send
them (Tiscali webmail saves all the email you send automatically, as
does other popular email software such as Outlook Express).

There have been no reported problems with incoming mail.

Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may
have caused you. We'll continue to monitor email performance closely
to ensure there are no further problems.

Further communication and FAQs will follow later.
