Default Domain registrars/hosting

I currently have six domains with 123-REG, and their customer service
is PANTS.

All I need at present is mail and web forwarding; complete control via
the web and human contactability for CS.

Any recommendations? My brother is satisfied with Fasthosts, but I
have just had to contact them for a second time with a sales question!

I've never had any problems with 1&1. Any issues I've had (and there really
haven't been many) have been dealt with very quickly and efficiently.

That is very reassuring. I have just sent them a couple of emails and
I'll see what their response times are.

Many thanks for taking the trouble to reply.

crap response times via email IME, but why would you need to contact
them?

I've got several domains all using 1&1 with forwarding and a domain
using alternate DNS - never a problem. Everything can be managed via
their web interface.

Only reason i've had to contact them is when i cocked up, not them.

Not as such, but make sure you actually own the domain,
not your ISP, or the agent who registered it.
If you don't own title to the domain your ISP can try
to stop you transferring it elsewhere and you haven't
a leg to stand on, because the domain is registered in
their name.

Ditto. 1and1 + zoneedit (www.zoneedit.com) is all I need. 1and1 have
nothing to bugger up apart from contact details really and zoneedit
just works :-)

Sounds like 123-REG. All I wanted my current chaps to do was to ensure
that a protest domain that I registered did not get automatically
renewed.

They either don't reply, or give the wrong info if they do. A complete
shower.

Pretty much what 1&1 did to me, or something along those lines. They
didn't action a cancel so I refused to pay for the domain then they
closed my account, along with all the other domains and hosting I was
paying for.

I'd not go back to that shower of nobs.
