We have a Windows 2000 Server running as a domain controller. The
folder "Public" has been shared will Full Control granted in Share Permissions for group Everyone. NTFS folder security permissions have been set to "Modify" for the group <domain>\Users. Specific user access or deny is set at the subfolder level. All network users login as domain users and access to this folder structure has been working fine for years. I recently added a Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 server to the network as a domain member server (not running AD or any other FSMO). The new server is shown in the computer list in AD on the domain controller. I want to create a shared folder on the new server and move files to it for general network access. I created the folder, set sharing permission to Full Control for group Everyone and then went to set NTFS security permissions. However, I can not get to the point of being able to specify group <domain>\Users. When I get to the point to Select Users, Computers, or Groups and select the domain in Locations, enter the domain administrator credentials, and then enter "users" in the Enter the object names to select dialog, I am presented with an error message: Name not found. This same folder security setting procedure works on the domain controller for folders located on it. Why does it not work on the member server? Help would be appreciated. Thanks. -- Bob Felton Bob Felton |

Thanks. I'll try that on Thursday when I'm back at the machine.
