Default cable not working on computer for LAN

What's up;

My boyfriend is having a little bit of trouble on his
computer at college. He bought a cable {DSL Kind} to
connect to the internet, but the cable isn't working. He
went to the properties & clicked to use the LAN instead of
the Modem & still isn't working. The computer keeps on
popping up wanting to use the modem. What can he do to fix
it so he can use the LAN instead of the Modem?? Can anyone
help??

Default Re: cable not working on computer for LAN

Presumably there *is* DSL service on the phone line, eh?
And a DSL modem external to the computer (which is *not* the modem referred
to in dialup networking).
So, there *is* a LAN.... ? And the connection to the LAN is all set up
properly - to use DHCP or not, etc.

Assuming all this is OK, Open Internet Explorer / Tools / Internet Options /
Connections
Select "Never dial a connection" and the propensity to use the dialup
connection should go away.
