Hi, I'm keen to set up a home network (1 PC - 1 Laptop) with joint
internet access via a once telewest cable modem. Does anyone know if I'm likely to experience any problems using a suitable router from PC World etc? Any advice would be welcome. Thanks jezzsj@gmail.com |

The ones in PC World are usually ADSL ones (a combi wireless/router/adsl modem). A good one is the Linksys WRT54G (or it's new equivelent). |

I'd avoid wireless unless you really need it, signal strength and wall penetration can be /far/ different to the claimed 100ft indoors - I'm lucky to get 20 feet in one direction, though the other direction is a bit better. Also you will probably stuggle to get encryption working at first. Other than that, remember to power off the modem before connecting the router, otherwise it won't obtain a new IP address for the router, set everything to DHCP (clients and router) and it should just work -- Mark McIntyre |

Very happy with the Linksys - I've been told that it's better quality kit than D-Link. Regards Simon Clark Business Telecoms |
