Default No TCP/IP protocall for network adapter

I have installed a D-Link ethernet adapter on a windows ME
machine but no TCP/IP protocall shows up in my network
properties. I have tried removing everything in device
manager as well as in "my network places" properties and
reinstalling but all that shows up in the list is the
adapter. (no TCP/IP protocall = no settings for my address
= no internet!!!!)

Help....
Jim
