I have a couple of issues. One is resolved, sort of, and one is still a
problem. I'm trying to use Windows Server 2003 to be a print server and letting a laptop running Windows ME print to a Lexmark printer. The first problem was that it wanted an IPC$ password. I ended up adding a userid to the laptop and defining the same user on the server, which worked. But occasionally it still asks for the password for the printer, and it's the server password for that ID. Seems weird, but it looks like that's a problem that lots of people hit. I can add the printer to either system and it works fine. I installed the printer and added the win95/98/me drivers as well as the 200x drivers to the server. Everything looks ok from that side. Then I added the printer as a network printer on the lapto, but it always says that the printer is offline when I try to use it. When I try to print the test page, I see two 1 second of traffic on the router on both ports, and then it comes back and says that the printer is offline. I tried it both as installing the printer as a network printer on Win ME, as well as using a local definition and then changing the port to \\servername\printsharename There's no updated driver on the Lexmark website for the ME side, and I used the Win 2003 server supplie drivers when installing the printer. Thanks for any help. Doug Doug Cunningly |
