I am the network admin of a small peer to peer workgroup.
about 15 computers ( I know). File server is an XP Professional box. On this machine lives the Access database (amoung other things) shared with about 3 users-- 1 running W2K, 2 XP home edition , AND now they want meto bring the ME box onto the field to access the database. The ME box is running the MS Access software. The Network has a router (netgear) which is sharing a DSL modem. All computers have no problem accessing the POP3/SMTP internet and their mail accounts. When I arrived at the network when it was set up this way. It is a non-profit and they cannot afford an IT person. Problem. the users running the w2k and the xp can see the folders and files in the access database on mapped drive (Z). When I tried to map the ME box to (Z) I got empty folders. It was able to detect the shared folders and apparently the folders were shared. I do not know if the w2K or XP is using NTFS (but I WILL check). N. Dartt N.Dartt |

Whether or not NTFS is involved is irrelevant.
www.careyholzman.com/netfixes.htm I recommend Tip #1 on all PCs.
