Default TCP/IP stack crash ?

OK, I feel a bit weird posting instead of replying to a post, but here
goes....

I have no problems with my networking (me, a router and a broadband
modem) *except* occasionally (not reproducible on demand) while playing
a specific game (M$ Freelancer) I'll get a "not connected to server"
message, and discover that my entire computer (IE, Mail, as well as the
game) has been disconnected from the network and I have to reboot to get
it back.

This doesn't happen under any other circumstances (including downloading
large files) so I figure it has to be a bug in the game somehow crashing
a network protocol.

Is there a way I can protect my connection from sloppy programming, or,
failing that, a way I can reboot my network connection without rebooting
the computer (a simple winipcfg renewal is no help).

Thanks

Rick

Have your tried WINIPCFG from a dos prompt (or Start|Run)? - renew all
leases?

WINIPCFG yes (as noted); on Renew it just hangs 'til I CloseProgram it,
IPCONFIG I'll try next time.
