Hi,
In his (excellent) reply to my post, Steve Winograd (many thanks again) suggested that I use our new XP system as the primary system on our two PC network. As I'm now connecting the two it occurs that it would be far more convenient (phone-line geography) to keep the ME PC as the primary connection and to run the xp system as a second PC. Acceptable? Also, our ME system has a log-on prompt with a long- forgotten password, we always just cancel it on start-up. Could this be a problem to networking. Thanks, in advance, for your time and patience. Best wishes, ph ph |

Acceptable? Thanks, "ph". Yes, you can do that. Set up Internet Connection Sharing on ME, and configure XP as an ICS client. I've written some web pages with full details: ICS Installation [WinMe] http://www.practicallynetworked.com/...smeinstall.htm XP ICS - Client Setup Using the Network Setup Wizard http://www.practicallynetworked.com/.../clientwiz.htm Don't run XP's Network Setup Wizard on the ME computer even if it tells you to. >Also, our ME system has a log-on prompt with a long- >forgotten password, we always just cancel it on start-up. >Could this be a problem to networking. Canceling the login will prevent the ME system from accessing shared disks and folders on the XP system. To remove the password, go to the C:\Windows folder and delete the file <username>.pwl. >Thanks, in advance, for your time and patience.
