Getting Sky broadband

I have recently applied to Sky for their broadband service and have
been told that I would first have to give up my existing broadband(AOL)
and I then would have to wait some 3 or 4 weeks for my Sky service to
commence.

Is this a spoiler? As Sky now own UK AOL my cynicism indicates to me
that they are reluctant to give up a customer paying £20.00 + a month
for Sky's free service! I may be wrong but the Sky individual I spoke
to was a long way from being helpful.

Any ideas?

Sky doesn't who AOL UK. The Carphone Warehouse does.

Carphone Warehouse own AOL, not Sky. While BT and Sky both reportedly were
looking to bid on AOL, neither of them took of it over.

The free Sky Broadband is provided using an Easynet LLU service. If there
isn't Easynet LLU at your exchange then they'll keep emailing you asking if
you want to go to Sky Connect for £17.99 a month, which is provided over a
normal BT connection.

Almost certainly the result of LLU and not being able to use MAC keys to
migrate.
