Default User Printing Problem

I have a print server running Windows Server 2003 R2. The problem that I
have is that certain users are unable to print properly. When they send a
document to the printer, it basically stops the whole queue. Others can
print fine, unless one of the users with the problem has sent a document
already. The queue can be cleared by restarting the print spooler service on
the server. When the print spooler service is restarted all the documents in
the queue print out properly. So the documents will print, but only if the
print spooler service is manually restarted.

In case this matters, this server is part of an ad domain, and also
functions as one of the domain controllers.

Thanks,
Jason

The only time I've ever seen this a few years back was due to a corrupt
print job or file being printed. Have you investigated what is being printed
when this happens? If so, try to print the file from another user's
workstation to see if it will print?

Based on your recommendations, I have determined that it is dependent on what
is being printed - I believe the problem is isolated to Internet Explorer. I
had a Microsoft Word document that I tried printing with multiple accounts,
including the ones that had the problems, and it worked OK. So the problem
is with Internet Explorer, but only with selected users - I've tested
Internet Explorer to print OK with others users that have the same level of
permissions and group membership. I guess resetting information in their
profiles that deals with internet explorer should fix the problem, and I
deleted the Internet Explorer folder within Application Data but that didn't
work. Any suggestions as to what else should be done?

Thanks,
Jason

Just with IE? Strange. Is there something they have installed, such as an
ActiveX object or some other embedded object? Look in IE Tools, IE Options,
Settings, View Objects. Rt-click on each one to see what manufacturer
created them. Don';t delete any of them, for even soem of the no-name ones
may be important, depending on what is installed. Compare these to the users
that do not work.

I would assume then that the objects that were disabled maybe have something
to do with printing from IE. Enable all of them and see if it works. If it
does, start eliminating them one by one to see which one it stops printing
on.
