I'd greatly appreciate any help with the following
problem: Our two main computers are networked. One runs XP; one runs ME. Upgrading the latter to XP causes problems with the video and sound cards, so we'd like to avoid it for now. We have some BIG -- 13 GB plus - files on the XP computer that we want to get to the ME computer (why is a long story). When we try, we get error messages about the disk being full. The target hard drive is 120 GB and has plenty of room. (The sending hard drive is also 120 GB and is getting crowded, but still has several times 13 GB empty.) We're assuming that some limitation in ME is causing the problems. Is there a way around this -- perhaps by resetting something in virtual memory (a newbie's guess...), or by resetting something else??... An email answer to (E-Mail Removed), or a quick message there alerting me that an answer is on this board, would be a wonderful additional favor. Thanks!! Karen A. Wyle Karen A. Wyle |

Wyle I'm sorry, but Windows ME can't store a file larger than 4 GB. That's a limitation of the FAT16 and FAT32 file systems that ME uses, and there's no way to change it. If you just want to back up a large XP file to the ME computer, you can split it into smaller pieces and copy the pieces. Here's a program that I use: http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/fil...id,6938,00.asp The program automatically creates a batch file that you can run on XP to re-create the full file from the pieces. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. I'm sorry, but I don't answer questions addressed directly to me in E-mail or news groups.
