I have a home network that connects 4 machines: two XP-Home desktops, an
XP-Home laptop, and a WinME laptop. They are all sharing an internet connection through a NetGear wireless router. The three XP machines are all connect to the router by Cat. 5 cable; the WinMe machine connects through a wireless link. My problem is, when I am on the WinMe machine, I cannot see any of the other computers, or even the workgroup (MSHOME) that I have them all in. When I am on one of the XP desktops, I can see the WinMe computer as a part of this workgroup. I also can map the hard drive on the WinMe as a network drive on the XP desktop, and I can read and write on the WinME machine from the XP desktop. When I try to go the other way -- mapping a drive on the XP desktop from the WinMe machine, a get an error telling me that the WinMe machine is not logged on to a network. I can access the Internet from the WinME machine just fine. I have verified that the WinME machine has a unique name, and has the same workgroup (MSHOME) as the other computers. I have tried this with and without a firewall running on the WinME machine. Does anyone have any idea of what I need to do to get the WinME machine to "officially" log on to the network? Thanks in advance, David Benson (Please reply to newstroup -- return address is munged.) David W. Benson, Jr. |

David,
I have a similar post which is currently right next to yours in the newsgroup. Just curious if you were to go to Start->Logoff and logoff (even though you're not logged in, you'll still get a logoff option), then (assuming you get a logon prompt at this point) login as any user. Are you then able to access network resources? If so, then your problem is essentially the same one that I posted (Subject: Cannot get a Logon Prompt at boot time) I am quite anxious to know the fix to this too. >-----Original Message----- >I have a home network that connects 4 machines: two XP- Home desktops, an >XP-Home laptop, and a WinME laptop. David,
I just found a fix from a reply to someone's earlier post. It involves deleting a registry value. I just tried it and it worked. Check out this page: http://www.wown.com/j_helmig/nologon.htm#AutoLogon Robert |
