Still searching.
Does anyone anywhere know where these can be got on CD, preferable in PDF
format.

I'd check the HP website under the support/downloads area. They normally
have downloads of user manuals in PDF format. Just burn them to a CD
after downloading....

I have tried HP, also emailed the 2 x ebay items quoted but don't have much
hope. Strange that it is easier to get service manuals than user manuals.
One would have though that someone somewhere would have transferred these to
PDF.
I will keep trying.

spooky .... my reply doen't show up at being here, and yet you got it

i thought of trying to find and search online libraries (state / county /
colledges) , but i got tired of looking or didnt search rite.
