I have an external Yagi (basically) antenna and i want to attach that
for my Linksys WRT54G and i want to know if there is an adapter to change from the tiny coax connection on the router to a normal coax cable so i can more easily facilitate this. Naivite@gmail.com |

More than likely the Yagi antenna is not in the range of your Linksys, so it would not work anyway. Is there any labels on the antenna that give a manufacture and model number, if not the frequency. > > On Oct 21, 11:47 pm, "Dana" <raff...@yahoo.com> wrote: > > <Naiv...@gmail.com> wrote in messagenews:(E-Mail Removed) oglegroups.com... > > > > > I have an external Yagi (basically) antenna and i want to attach that > > > for my Linksys WRT54G and i want to know if there is an adapter to > > > change from the tiny coax connection on the router to a normal coax > > > cable so i can more easily facilitate this. What is the frequency of the antenna, and does it match the frequency of > > your linksys? > > > > > |

i'll have to check, it's currently a quarter after midnight where i
live and i doubt i'm going to climb up on a telephone pole right now. but i will definitely check it out in the morning. i'd assume the average output for my router to be within the 2.4~ish GHz range? Yes, I think that sounds right for your router, though there is some 5ghz stuff out there. And Radio shack or a local two way radio shop (Motorola dealer) should be able to help you out with any adapters needed if the antenna does match your router frequency. > > On Oct 22, 12:05 am, "Dana" <raff...@yahoo.com> wrote: > > <Naiv...@gmail.com> wrote in messagenews:(E-Mail Removed) ooglegroups.com... > > > > > i have no idea. the antenna was installed before i moved in...More than likely the Yagi antenna is not in the range of your Linksys, so it > > would not work anyway. that's part of the problem, i work at radio shack and i have had
difficulty finding a suitable adapter. i've spoken to my boss about it but he's a total idiot even though he previously owned a computer shop as well, so i don't really have any help there... I want to say it is an rp-tnc connector here is a link to a pigtail adapter with an N female on the other end. Look for the InPath RP-TNC male to N female a little down the page http://www.wlanantennas.com/antenna_cables.htm > > On Oct 22, 12:43 am, "Dana" <raff...@yahoo.com> wrote: > > <Naiv...@gmail.com> wrote in messagenews:(E-Mail Removed) oglegroups.com... > > > > > i'll have to check, it's currently a quarter after midnight where i > > > live and i doubt i'm going to climb up on a telephone pole right now. > > > but i will definitely check it out in the morning. i'd assume the > > > average output for my router to be within the 2.4~ish GHz range?Yes, I think that sounds right for your router, though there is some 5ghz > > stuff out there. > > And Radio shack or a local two way radio shop (Motorola dealer) should be > > able to help you out with any adapters needed if the antenna does match your > > router frequency. > > > > > > > > > On Oct 22, 12:05 am, "Dana" <raff...@yahoo.com> wrote: > > > > <Naiv...@gmail.com> wrote inmessagenews:1161488911.916946.224780@b28g2000cwb .googlegroups.com... > > > > > > > i have no idea. the antenna was installed before i moved in...Morethan likely the Yagi antenna is not in the range of your Linksys, so it> > would not work anyway. Check out this link below. Does the antenna look similar to these. http://www.wlanantennas.com/yagi_antennas.htm If you find out that the antenna on your building was used for an old base station in the UHF band, the above link may help achieve what you want to do. But I thought Radio Shack carried 2.4ghz Yagi antennas. > > On Oct 22, 12:43 am, "Dana" <raff...@yahoo.com> wrote: > > <Naiv...@gmail.com> wrote in messagenews:(E-Mail Removed) oglegroups.com... > > > > > i'll have to check, it's currently a quarter after midnight where i > > > live and i doubt i'm going to climb up on a telephone pole right now. > > > but i will definitely check it out in the morning. i'd assume the > > > average output for my router to be within the 2.4~ish GHz range?Yes, I think that sounds right for your router, though there is some 5ghz > > stuff out there.
