Hello -
We have a web application sitting on a Windows2003 Server that is viewed by wireless WindowsCE4.2 tablets. Our web application has a XML file where we put in the host names of the tablets, so that only certain tablets are able to access the application. However, what seems to be happening, is that the web server isn't able to resolve the hostnames of the tablets in DNS, and are not allowing these tablets to access the site. All of the tablets are assigned IP addresses from a Windows2003 DHCP server. My question is, are WindowsCE tablets able to register their hostname with a Windows2003 DNS server? I saw a setting in our DHCP server that says "Always dynamically update DNS A and PTR records". Should we turn that on, to make sure that the DHCP server is updating the DNS server, is the tablets are not able to? Thanks, Blake Galpersonal |

Additionally, I found a setting that also says "Dynamically update DNS A and
PTR records for DHCP clients that do no request updates (for example, clients running WindowsNT". Would a Windows CE 4.2 client also call under that heading "clients that don't request it"? Thanks so much! Able to, yes. Do they do it? No, I don't think so. You need to hook up a
network sniffer or run one on the server machine to see what's actually happening, but I think that the only name resolution that you're going to be able to use is NetBIOS, not DNS. Paul T.
