Am I missing some detail or are pipex ripping me off ? Anyway I cant seem to get through to sent them a snail mail letter ( the best way to talk to an ISP these days ?) Dear Sir, I have been unable to get through to your customer support via the telephone within a reasonably time recently and have had no success contacting you via the online web form either. Basically I would like to know why it is that I am being charged 27.99 per month for a 2Gb line when on your web page you advertise a maximum speed connection for 24.99 ( AKA Pipexmax Broadband only ). Please can you confirm that I should be paying the lower advertised rate and if/when my line will be upgraded to the full 4Mb as indicated by the BT line checker site. I look forward to your reply and remaining a loyal Pipex customer in the future since I have on the whole been satisfied with the service up until recent times. srp@lycos.co.uk |

its 2mb line and it could be your wiring holding u back, post your line

Do you think the ISP is suddenly going to take notice and do everything you say? Do you do this with every letter you send off to companies? |

I'm currently with Pipex myself and getting pissed off with their lack of upgrade options for long-standing customers. |

I quite like the service but it really annoys me that they don't seem to have any sense of fair play to their loyal customers, I don't want a new contract since if sky get things right I may well switch to them when they come to my area with the free service. nothng to loose, can go back to pipex with a faster line if sky let me down I 'spose ? |

Pipex customer support is virtually not existent at the moment. It took me 3 weeks to eventually get through and have my service upgraded. Apparently, they have to pay a small re-grade fee to BT and they'd rather not do this, so they wait for you to ask. Also, they insist on a12 month contract, starting from upgrade date. I'm not sure what the implications of getting out early would be. I just don't have the time to phone and find out. |

Well, (1) BT internet users also had a new 12 month contract (just to put both ISPs on a level playing field) and (2) even Zen required users to ask (though in that case, one would be opting to lose the "unlimited" nature of the traffic download-wise, so perhaps it was understandable). But as to a 'fee' being payable, I am sure it was shown on ADSLguide that a switch from IPStream 2000 kbps to IPStream Max was free (various other options shown were either free or had a fee of 5.00 +VAT) so it seems poor of ANY ISP to use this 'fee' as a reason for a 12 month extension of contract. I switched months ago (had been one of a group 'meant' to get priority for the switch to DSL Max, but when it reached the end of April and the ISP's plans were still too chaotic for me to expect them to achieve their aims I got a MAC and moved - saved myself 5 quid a month and went from a 10 GB a month traffic limit to a 20 GB (peak hours) and 'fair use' the remaining 18 hours a day. The 'fair use' isn't laid down, unfortunately, so heavy users will possibly find themselves pushing off to AOL (gulp!) if they are expecting to shift hundreds of GB for 20 quid or less. -- Change to DSL Max the way I did: switch ISP <http://www.dslmax.info/> |
