Default How can I determine what type of Ethernet Controller I am running.

Hi,

I recently installed WK3 and it can't pick up my Ethernet Controller.
It does not give me any information on what type of controller it is
and since I have no Ethernet I cannot connect to the Internet.

Is there a tool that can be downloaded to detect what type of
Controller I have and what Driver I need.

Any help is welcome.

Thanks

Greg.

Take the covers off the machine and read the label on the Ethernet card. If
it is built into the MB, read the labels off nearby chipsets. If your MB
uses, for example, nVidia chips for other things (sounds, video, etc.) odds
are fair to middlin' that they use the same vendor for the NIC.

If the Ethernet controller is built into the MB, you can also hit the
website that makes your MB and sleuth around a little. Or, find a vender
that supports your brand of PC or MB and look at any of their models to see
what drivers they offer for dl. Download anything that looks promising and
give it a try. The wrong driver won't install because it won't be able to
find any supported device. The right driver will install.

I know you said you can't connect to the internet, but one way or another
you will have to download the drivers, once you find out which ones to
download. Dialup maybe?

There's also this utility that is useful for identifying devices:
Unknown Device Identifier
