Under Internet Options in your control panel, click the Connections tab and
tell it to NEVER DIAL OUT Also, download and run AdAware from www.lavasoftusa.com and get rid of all the spyware on your PC. Something that runs automatically at startup is trying to connect to the Internet. It could be a program that tries to update itself automatically, such as Windows Update, MSN Messenger, antivirus, or Real Player. To find out, go to Start | Run | Msconfig Startup and see what's running automatically. You can un-check an item to disable it. If that doesn't help, try adding these lines to the Hosts file to disable other automatic connections: 127.0.0.1 sa.windows.com 127.0.0.1 eservicesupport.us.dell.com # Dell computer only To edit the Hosts file, enter this command in the Start | Run box, making sure to include the "." at the end of the command: notepad C:\Windows\Hosts. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. I'm sorry, but I don't answer questions addressed directly to me in E-mail or news groups. I am not the most technical minded of people but do you
have the Dial-up connection set to automatically run on startup? If so, then the answer might be as simple as turning it off? >-----Original Message----- >Hi, > >My problem is driving me batty, I dont know why but ME >always tries to establish a Dial-up network connection to >my ISP when the pc is first powered up > >any ideas anyone?? >. > |
