Network Adapter will not release?

My friend needs help. He had zone alarm pro installed & a browser window
came up that blocked access the internet.
He eventually uninstalled the zone Alarm. Still could not connect so he
called tech support and they told him to release the adapter but it will not
release. Anybody know how to fix this?

He's running Win ME on a systemmax pc, with verizon dsl dialup a westell
modem.

What IP address does his computer show now? You can find this information
with Winipcfg.exe if it's installed, if not use a command prompt and type
IPCONFIG and press Enter.
