Hi,
I have a member server of my domain that goes on the road with some of our staff who also take thier desktop computers with them. I was thinking to easy the burden of login and other things to change the member server to a DC so when they all go on the road, they login exactly like they would in the office. My question is: When they go on the road DHCP is always a concearn as it differs from building to building, site to site that they go to. So the server that they take has a dynamic IP address. Can I upgrade this member server to a DC and still have it get it's IP address from another DHCP server or does it have to have a static IP Address? chigrboy |

Hi,
Yes -- DC can be a DHCP client, but they will have a long logon times (few minutes). Personally I would be very concerned about carrying domain controller around. It has all the passwords of all the users stored on it and access to all resources in domain. If someone compromises that server while on the road he/she will "own" the domain. The only way to get out of that is to rebuild your domain from scratch (create all users, add all computers to domain, set all permissions on all the servers, ...)... -- Mike Microsoft MVP - Windows Security "chigrboy" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:6767E234-E8F6-4D20-B845-(E-Mail Removed)... > Hi, > > I have a member server of my domain that goes on the road with some of our > staff who also take thier desktop computers with them.
