Default Can't connect to VPN remotely

Hi,

I am unable to connect to a VPN on my server remotely, every time I try and
connect I get an error: "Error 800: Unable to establish the VPN Connection.
The VPN server may be unreachable, or security parameters may not be
configured properly for this connection."

If I am connected to the same network as the server, the connection works
fine. Only when trying to connect remotely do I get problems. Sorry I can't
give any more information, to be honest, I don't know exactly what
information would be useful in trying to get the problem sorted.

Thanks.

Thanks for the links, I checked them out and tried some of the things they suggested. I am using a Netgear FVL328 with the latest firmware. Port 1723 is opened, and the option to allow VPN passthrough has been checked.

The only thing I have not yet checked is if IP Protocol 47 is open, but am unable to find anywhere in the router control panel to open it (if it is not yet already open).

My server only has 1 NIC and I am trying to set up the VPN with PPTP.

Ok I just ran the PPTPCLNT tool to check if GRE was open, and I am not sure if it is open........ this is what is displayed when I run the tool:

Initializing Winsock . . .
Obtaining host information . . .
Successfully resolved server's host information
==================================
Enter data to send to sever (between 1 and 255 chrs.), then hit enter:
-->1

Error 10061 calling connect ():
WSAECONNREFUSED: Connection refused

Creating a socket to test GRE protocol traffic. . .

Total GRE packets sent = 1
Total GRE packets sent = 2
Total GRE packets sent = 3
Total GRE packets sent = 4
Total GRE packets sent = 5

====================================
Check server to see if the GRE packets were received successfully
====================================

Closing down socket

Goodbye!

I am guessing this is telling me that GRE is blocked on my router, no idea where to enable it though.

If the VPN pass through is enabled that is good enough for GRE. However I still believe it is Netgear FVL328 issue. Any errors in the Server event Viewer? Any errors in the Netgear FVL328 logs?

No errors that I can see on either the Servers event viewer, or on the Netgear. I did notice that when I used the PPTPSVR tool that I got the error WSAEADDRINUSE but so far have not looked too much into the error.
