I work at a school where all the comps are PC's. I use a Mac. The IT guy
told me NOT to connect my Mac to the school server. I have three Macs at school two run OS 9.2.2 and one runs OSX 10.3.9. Out of desperation to use the Internet, I connect all three. All three found an IP address and in seconds I was on the web and able to do everything much faster than the PC's. NOW....could my Mac's cause the server to crash and get me fired? Edward,
"Could my Mac's cause the server to crash" --> if you are just using network to browse/use the internet, the answer is No, you Macintosh will not cause the server to crash. "and get me fired" --> this unfortunately is not a technical question, it is probably more to do with policy. If this school has a policy not to use Macintosh computers on the network, and you are, then you are breaking that policy, which in fact might be a trigger for disciplinary action. Best thing is to talk to the sysadmin, and reason, and listen (!)... come to some sort of workable compromis ! rgds, Edwin.
