i work for a software company that works with a huge range of
customers. from just figuring out how to move and click with a mouse to IT professionals. i have been looking at the different remote assist programs out there like webex, gotoassist, networkstreaming, itivity.... and the list goes on. i was wondering if anyone had any idea of something linux based that we may possibly be able to implement as a linux server, with windows clients (all our internal computers are windows and customers computers are windows). i would love to implement a linux server in our company, but have yet been able to find anything useful. if anyone out there knows of something or has heard of something that may possibly work, please let me know......thanks in advance sthowes@hotmail.com |

However this will stay guess-work until the OP tells us more? -- Michael Heiming (X-PGP-Sig > GPG-Key ID: EDD27B94) mail: echo (E-Mail Removed) | perl -pe 'y/a-z/n-za-m/' #bofh excuse 69: knot in cables caused data stream to become twisted and kinked |

basically the software we currently have is based on our windows server
and allows our technicians to control our clients computer with a small install and after they grant permission. it is similar to vnc, but the end user has to grant permission each and every time one of our technicians wants access. (our customers like the fact that we can't just log on at any time without permission). i'm looking for a replacement software, or hardware (which ever the case may be). |

Sorry, but I don't see how Linux should fit for the task in your 100% doze environment. You could try a search on freshmeat.net in any case. Unix systems such as Linux are generally multi user system, it doesn't really matter if there's one ore hundreds of users logged in to a system powerful enough. On the brink I support desktops, though they tend to generate not that much work. Though it would just delay any support request if you can't login, because you have to wait on users permission to do so. There are for sure dozens of possibilities to deploy Linux in your network. What about a small samba box setup as pdf printer, any user can "print" out of any application from his doze PC and a .pdf file will be generated and put into their $HOME or somewhere else. Not that difficult, there are a few howto online available about the matter, just use google for what it was intended to. Good luck BTW Since you might be new to usenet, this is *NOT* a groups.google forum, even if it looks like this to you, please quote context: "Google Groups users please read - Howto reply properly" http://groups.google.com/support/bin...y?answer=14213 -- Michael Heiming (X-PGP-Sig > GPG-Key ID: EDD27B94) mail: echo (E-Mail Removed) | perl -pe 'y/a-z/n-za-m/' #bofh excuse 10: hardware stress fractures |
