I have an ME system on a home net (192.168.0.53 255.255.255.0) It's
gateway is 192.168.0.1 which is a LinSys router connected to a broadband cable modem. I cannot ping this machine from any other on my home net nor can I ping anything (local or Internet IP address) from this machine. Yet all browser functionality is working fine. I can put a sniffer on the hub to which it connects and see that TCP/IP to the Internet is working, connecting to a shared directory (via NetBios over TCP) works fine, using a net use * \\othermachine\share command. Yet when I attempt a tracert or ping, no ICMP packets ever appear. It is as though they are being blocked and never hitting the wire. I have been using Panda Anti-Virus Platinum 7.0 with a built-in firewall and thought that have been the culprit but disabling that has made no difference, nor has been ripping out the TCP stack completely and re-installing. I also replaced the original NIC with an Intel EtherExpress PRO card with no change in the symptoms. This is driving me nuts. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas for me? Len Biedron |

I'd suggest uninstalling (not disabling) the firewall.
