I have a problem with explorer exhibiting strange behavior
and hanging whenever I am connected to a wireless card. I am currently using Windows ME as installed on my Gateway computer for a couple years now, and have been using a USB cable modem, and the system has been working great. However, I now want to install a wireless adapter, and whether I use an PCI or USB wireless device, I get the same problem. I am installing them with the cable modem disconnected and have worked with tech support from the manufacturers to make sure I was doing it right. I am pretty certain I am. Whenever the wireless card is connected, I can access the wireless network ok at first and get my browser open, but the computer ends up "freezing up" after I try to open any folder on my desktop. Often I see as this happens that explorer is listed as not responding in the ctr-alt-del screen. This happens whether I am trying to use USB or PCI wireless. I can't figure it out at all. The worst thing i see on my device manager is a little green question mark by the USB Composite Device. I am at wits end and may abandon my wireless networking efforts without help - no one else seems to have this problem. Mark |
