microsoft.public.windowsme.networking:
I have a Windows 2000 Professional machine and a Windows Millenium Edition machine connected via a LAN (100TX Ethernet with switch). I have created an identical account (with password) on both machines. Networking seems to be okay, except for the following. When I look at a shared folder on WinME from W2KP, everything works fine, regardless of the size of the folder. As I move to each level, W2KP gets a directory listing of just that level. When I look at a shared folder on W2KP from WinME, it starts off getting directory listings of just what's visible. But , if I start digging around, WinME appears to decide to read *everything*. This is a problem if the network folder is big (for example, 112,142 files and 4,494 folders). Once WinME has made this decision, the lights on my switch blink furiously and WinME Windows Explorer basically hangs for many minutes. Image what would happen if I inserted VPN routers and DSL between the two! Is this a bug, or a feature of WinME? How do I "fix" it? TIA, David David Christensen |

Just one thing, are you sure it was Tip #12? There is only 1 step in that
tip. I am just curious which tip you actually used. Thanks again, Carey "David Christensen" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:034201c3abfc$e1a0b5a0$(E-Mail Removed)... > http://www.careyholzman.com/netfixes.htm > > Tip #12 steps 1-12 and the problem is fixed! > > > "Hip, Hip, Hazzah!" for Carey! :-) > > > David > |
