My circumstances is I have both server one is running in linux based and
another one is window server 2003. Linux server is use for streamyx fix line modem. But now, I need to remove linux server and switch the streamyx fix line modem connected to window server 2003 by add on another NIC card to connect to streamyx modem. After connected, I enter my streamyx fix ip and gateway into TCPIP and press save but then at that time it prompt out redundant gateway and it would not fuctionally proper for internet connection. I don't know how to do sharing gateway to get both LAN and LAN2 running in the same server. Can you please help to solve this problem as I don't dare to set anything if not then not solving problem but then created problem. If anyone know please give me a feedback ASAP because its urgent. Thank you. John |

There is no such thing as sharing a gateway. the internet Nic is the only
Nic that issupposed to have a Default Gateway. *Nothing* else is supposed to have a Default Gateway. -- Phillip Windell [MCP, MVP, CCNA] www.wandtv.com "John" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:2D25062A-7792-4983-A09A-(E-Mail Removed)... > My circumstances is I have both server one is running in linux based and > another one is window server 2003. In news:(E-Mail Removed),
Phillip Windell <@.> stated, which I commented on below: > There is no such thing as sharing a gateway. the internet Nic is the > only Nic that issupposed to have a Default Gateway. *Nothing* else > is supposed to have a Default Gateway. Good analogy for John: Think of the gateway as the "doorway" out to the world from your building. The exit doors can't be 'shared' so to speak. Sure as people we can deduce which door we want to use, but for networking, only one. Now think of it as there can only be ONE door. If you want multiple doors inwards (not out) to say, other rooms in the building, we can stipulate by specifying static routes. However, outbound, there can only be one. By default think of all traffic flowing outbound by default. However, there are routers out there that can be configured with multiple gateways, but that's getting into some $$, such as routers that support BGP (border gateway protocol), but they are for infrastructure backbones that support lines such as T3 lines that connect multiple ISPs for fault tolerance and possibly load balancing, depending on the SLA (service level agreement). -- Ace Innovative IT Concepts, Inc Willow Grove, PA This posting is provided "AS-IS" with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights.
