I wonder about history of "domain" concept in IT. Does it start with Windows
or has another background? LacOniC |

Are you referring to DNS domains or Windows domains anyway? In Windows 2003 both types of domains are very similar now but they did not used to be when Windows relied in NetBIOS names and used workgroups. |

I believe it goes back to OS/2 and LANMAN which has a similar workgroup type
layout, this slowly evolved into the full blown Windows domain concept. -- Joe Richards Microsoft MVP Windows Server Directory Services Author of O'Reilly Active Directory Third Edition www.joeware.net ---O'Reilly Active Directory Third Edition now available--- http://www.joeware.net/win/ad3e.htm LacOniC wrote: > I wonder about history of "domain" concept in IT.
