For the past 18 months, our company has used 25 XP Pro workstations joined to
a local workgroup. We've just added our first server running Server 03 Standard Edition and set it up as a domain controller. When the workstations join the new domain, all the users personal settings and documents are gone (well, locked away in an unaccessable folder on the hard drive). Is there a way to have these users join the new domain and still keep all their settings and personalizations? Thanks, Greg gsaladin |

After they log in with their new domain account, they need to log back out
and have you log in as the administrator then..... 1. Properties of My Computer 2. Then Advanced Tab, then User Profiles 3. Use the GUI to copy the local workgroup Profile for that user over to the domain profile for that same user. 4. Log out, let them log back in. If it complains about files being "in use",...then reboot the machine before you log in as the Admin. -- Phillip Windell [MCP, MVP, CCNA] www.wandtv.com ----------------------------------------------------- Understanding the ISA 2004 Access Rule Processing http://www.isaserver.org/articles/IS...cessRules.html Microsoft Internet Security & Acceleration Server: Guidance http://www.microsoft.com/isaserver/t...dance/2004.asp http://www.microsoft.com/isaserver/t...dance/2000.asp Microsoft Internet Security & Acceleration Server: Partners http://www.microsoft.com/isaserver/partners/default.asp Deployment Guidelines for ISA Server 2004 Enterprise Edition http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro...isaserver.mspx ----------------------------------------------------- "gsaladin" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:2C696592-9061-4152-A98C-(E-Mail Removed)... > For the past 18 months, our company has used 25 XP Pro workstations joined to > a local workgroup. Thanks for this info - would have been handy if i had asked some time ago!!
Are you logging onto the computer as domain admin or local admin to do this ? I think either will work. XP also has a utility packaged with it that can do this,....but I haven't used it much and am not sure if I like it or not. It is the "File and Settings Transfer Wizard" found on the Start Menu under System Tools. NT4 and Win2000 never had that and you would use the method I described earlier. -- Phillip Windell [MCP, MVP, CCNA] www.wandtv.com |
