Ping returns wrong IP

I have a Windows 2003 server acting as domain controller and hosting RAS for
VPN clients. I can't figure out why on my interal PC's a ping SERVERNAME
will sometimes return the RAS host IP rather than the servers LAN IP. If I
do an ipconfig/release /renew it will start working (the renew always returns
the EXACT same settings). This is creating problems with Outlook clients
finding the exchange server. The clients will eventually find the server but
it takes a few minutes. If I delete the RAS IP entries from DNS or WINS the
VPN stops working. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In the Properties of Network Places on the RRAS box....
Advanced from the top menu
Advanced Settings from the dropdown menu
In the next dialog box move the LAN Nic to the top using the side arrows.

You could also look at KB 292822 for tips on preventing the "RRAS" IP
from registering in DNS and/or WINS.

Thanks for the suggestions, I was able to fix the problem by adding a static
map in the WINS server.

That just proves there is a problem,...it doesn't solve it.

I'm gonna have to save the link to that. I keep forgetting about that one.
I never run everything on one box like that and I tend to forget what
situations that creates.
